All the same, many thanks for those who had a crack at this. Kif Read this answer in context Thanks for that, and for the amazing promptness!
Yes, I've read something similar about Ask (which is also the engine behind Norton Safe Search) taking over the search tool bar via NIS, but sadly that's not my problem. Let us know whether the Update Center can get you the new Norton version, and we can advise you better on the other problem from there.
Thank you for your prompt answer, I followed the path you suggested and this is what happened: - first of all the download of the first file did not start automatically - when I ran it, it identified the premier version - when I downloaded the second file, the download manager, the system said "this file isn't downloaded frequently, it may damage your pc" - I choose run it in any case from action menu - the result is the same window I described in my first e-mail I can add there's no icon on my desktop for the download manager I have dual boot setting, Win 7 64bit and Vista 64bit, on the second one the upgrade ran smoothly.
However, when a new operating system is released, some software compatibility issues may occur.
Due to these issues, not all current Norton products are certified to run under every Windows operating system.

Then deactivated ID Protect again and backed out of N360. It could be that a subsequent update fixed the issue, or it might be just a quirk.Loaded Firefox, and NSS was gone from the Norton Toolbar (NTB). Why Symantec chose to bury an NTB setting three layers deep and remove the options button from the bar itself is beyond comprehension (along with a number of annoying changes since N360 v5 in 2011).
